Hello Everyone,

I am in need of a replacement front wheel for my Paso 750 Limited. Ideally I would like to find a clean and straight original red/aluminum Oscam wheel from one of the members here before I troll the internet. If you have one you are willing to sell please let me know. Would also appreciate any potential leads/connections to other sources. Will also consider other color combinations as long as the wheel is clean, straight and original.

When I bought my 750 way back in 1994 the front wheel already had a bend in it (from a hard edge hit) where the tire bead seats against the wheel but the wheel has always rolled smooth and straight. Lately though I am having issues with balance each time I fit a new front Shinko tire. Just this past week my local cycle shop re-adjusted the tire and weights twice but I am still having a very noticeable front end "bounce" between 30-40 mph (48-64 kph). They are telling me the bend may be getting worse and causing the tire to have a bulge-type deformation at the bend location, this in turn creating an out-of-round condition and causing the hop. Does this sound credible?

Thanks All, and hope you are doing well in these very strange covid times.

Tom

Did you manage to find a front wheel?
I have the same issues with mine. I own a 906 but do not like the white shark underside very much. So i had the belly wrapped in metalic black foil and replaced the white wheels with the black/clear 750 wheels. However the front is not completely round so i have the same wobble you describe at around 50kph.
You do not need to replace this wheel as it can be straightened by a specialist. The cost of straightening will outweigh the cost of a replacement but they can be hard to find. Especially in a good condition as the lacquered polished rim won't last for over 30 years.

I have not found one yet. I have been looking online but the wheels I do see are in very poor condition. I have not tried to find someone to straighten the wheel - I am unsure how safe/reliable that would be on a cast wheel.

Hi Tom,

I'm in the midst of completing a 17" rim conversion... Rear wheel conversion is completed and front wheel is coming off this weekend, so will have both rims available if needed. Having owned the bike since new (1989) I can confirm the red/aluminium Oscam front wheel is very straight, paint is reasonable and even the front brake rotors (sourced from MetalGear just last year) are barely scrubbed in... No problem with parting with the rim for a few dollars other than I'm living in NZ, so postage may be a killer.. Hopefully you have found something closer to home? However just message me if you want me to find out shipping costs.

Cheers, Marc

Hi Marc,

Thank you for this offer. I do have something in the works but not sure its going to work out just yet. Current owner is going to check them for runout and bends first. I will follow up with you in the near future and see if maybe I can figure out shipping cost from NZ to US, both wheels/no tires should be about 18-22 kgs as a guess. I'm curious though, any idea what shipping companies service NZ/US? FedEx probably? Others?

Reagrds, Tom

Why not just have your existing front wheel straightened? There are plenty of shops that can perform the service. PM me if you would like links to a few.
