The missus and I have decided that next year our annual holiday trip to Corfu will be taken on the bike this means the Paso will now have a full engine strip with her indoors full permission and the rest of the bike will be getting a damn site better strip down, repaint, rewire and polish than I could ever of hoped. Plus she won't see me slinking off to admire the Monsters and KTM's that frequent the Island as I will be almost 24/7 staying with my bike while we are there. I reckon it should be about a 4,000 km there and back We have already agreed that we shall be visiting the Ducati Museum and taking a tour around the factory if possible and hopefully enjoying a little bit of each country we enter on the way there and just blasting it back at the holidays end. We hope to do it over a three week period ( I dare not leave my daughter in the house with her brother any longer???) The reason for the thread is that I will be letting those interested know what problems I have with the rebuild ( If I can't find it in search ater 10 minutes looking!!!) - if any and also asking for some advice on places that need seeing / riding through on our way and on the spares kit that might be advisible and no that does not mean another Paso 907 following me. It should be fun and as we have not done any long biking holidays since before we married over 25 years ago. Must Guys do it with their old school mates - Me ? - I'm doing it with my best mate. |

Well this is what I am starting with the rebuild starts this weekend - dropping the engine out first to sort the knocking sound in the gearbox which is the first priority I hope that most probably it will be a selector fork damaged that's causing the noise in third gear? The panels have already come off as they need some major repairs after the previous owners repairs were not up to my own personal required standard. Piccies still playing up I will post eventually |

We took a route down through Austria into italy a couple of years ago and headed through the Pordoi and Falzerago passes and then on to Ora, then Lago di Garda for an overnight stay. The route was excellent and plenty of hotels in that area are bike friendly as are the roads. Also on the way back we ended up going through Switzerland - the pass between Chamonix and Martigny is an excellent ride and if your in the area the road up from Martingy to Verbier is worth a detour to ride as that to is great fun. If you do stop around there the "Hotel Transalpin" is worth stopping in to - the rooms are very cheap (and small!) but it has an excellent pizzeria attached and the local motorcycle club meet there every week Bologna is a flea pit though and the ring road is horrible but if you get lost just stop the nearest local and point at the bike and they will direct you !

Well guys (and girls no doubt?) Due to a distinct lack of work (credit crunch UK Style) I have found myself with unexpected stacks of time on my hands and no cash so I have cleared the Garage and stripped the bike with the intention of getting her back on the road for the end of May 2009 ready for test runs before the big trip to Corfu, Greece - IF MONEY ALLOWS?????? I have found a few problems along the way which I shall try to resolve with your help? I will keep it all in another thread and leave this one for the final glorious journey the missus and I have.....hopefully??????? |
