I am looking for a schematic for building the tester that the manual refers to. There are 3 wires coming off the ECU, a,b, & c. I need to know how they connect up to the light and switch :banghead:

Hi,

although I don`t have a clue of these things, I received this from Bryon (a member here) some time ago

The label says (as far as I can read it):
1-1 engine revolution sensor
1-2 timing system sensor
1-3 sequence
2-1 air temperature sensor
2-3 water temperature sensor
3-2 absolute pressure sensor
3-3 throttle position sensor

Maybe this is what you`re looking for.

G.

my understanding with these "standard Ducati testers is the ECU doesn't store errors - so the error must be present when the tester is used

Thanks, this is great! Yes Laddie the ECU doesn't store the code after power is turned off, but that shouldn't be a problem. I should be able to use the kill switch to turn the motor off after a ride and leave the key on.

Hi.

I tried to make one of this testers, or to be more precise, had a friend that is supposed to know electronics to make it for me. But sadly i have never been able to read any error codes from it, even trying to provoke errors by disconnecting sensors. :,(
I am a bit worried my friend is just bragging about his electronic knowlewdge...

Has anybody had any sucess making this tester?

I just completed the tester and have it plugged in and ready to go in the tool tray. It wasn't hot enough today to get the engine to misbehave, so I can't tell you whether it is reading the ECU. The test position lights the LED, so that is working properly, I'll let you know if I get a code or can invoke one soon. I just plugged the wires in the connector a taped them, does yours have a connector on it and can you tell me where it came from?

Hi.

Mine did also work in the test position and I bought a connector from this guy, but did never come around to connect it to the tester so i cant guarantee it will fit.
I did like you and taped it to the outlet but when i never got any readings i gave up on the project and put it all away...

Hope you will get your to work  and if you do i will try to figure out what went wrong with my attemts :,(

I think you need to try to determine what type of faults the ECU recognizes as a "fault".

to do this will be difficult (I think)...unless you can find an expert who knows the functions and what it really trouble-shoots in diagnosis.
is it just a drop-out or a time-related event - I dunno...

howz about pulling off the WTS, APS and ATS wires?
or maybe putting in an "out-of-range" resistor...
that might at least tell you if the unit detects anything for starters.

It would be interesting to see what happens during the misfire occurrance; like I said - my misfire was observed on a computor diagnostic tool - the spark & fuel timing went all over the place - at that time we guessed the ignitors/coils might be failing...but wrong.

Ultimately what the real question is with this tool: are you going to throw money at replacement components because an LED flashes?

I'm really interested to see where this goes...

I unplugged the WTS and tried the tester again. It did not signal any codes. I had an EE friend check my work and he says the box is working per the schematic. I think I tryed all combinations of read prior to starting, read momentary, etc and no dice! If anyone has one of these, can you tell me what the resistance is across the blue and purple wires in read mode? This should be the trigger to tell the ECU to send data over the white wire.

Someone out there has to have one of these testers, help! Has anyone successfully read a code on one of these?

Hi everyone.

In search of the ECU flashing light tester I came across this post. Its a little old, but after reading it, I gather those that tried to make the tester from the schematic didn't have much luck.

Is anyone still interested in getting an ECU Flashing Light tester working? Did anyone have any luck with the tester?

Cheers.

I use the Ducatidiag software () for my ST4s with the IAW59 ECU but JP also does an ECU software for the IAW 15/16 & P8 ECUs.
This may well work with the P7 also. I tried it but couldn't get a connection but that may be because I only have an ELM 327 interface and I think this version of the software only works with the VAG KKL interface. Worth a try maybe.
