Took some time off from riding to ask if anyone here has any suggestions or experience with reverse shifting setup on a paso?.Three rounds of lumbar surgery over the years have left me with a bit of a foot drop issue and I find myself seeking every neutral position the ducati has to offer. I can push just fine but lifting my foot can be a strain. Is it possible to just drop the linkage and position the shifter directly on the shaft or do I have to get a specially made shift arm. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated,Thanks....higgy

Hmm ... After careful reading of higgy's question, I think what he may want is simply a lower pedal pedal position, rather than a reversed shift pattern, and setting the pedal significantly lower may not be so easy, because one might run out of angle for leverage, unless the lever itself is modified.

If you can't shift up then a heel and toe set up would work for you. Only reversing the change down/up won't help your difficulty to shift the gear lever up.

Played around with the shift linkage a bit today,Reverse setup is working better for me,not perfect but I think it allows me to shift much easier and with much less strain. Got it set as low as I could with out binding or worse grounding on hard corners. Took about a 200 mile jaunt down by the Delaware river gap this after noon and the only issue I had was a missing neutral light on a couple of occasions and one incident of a hung third gear. I did notice when I got home the chain was a little on the loose side so I'll take care of that tomorrow and see what gives. Find myself longing for the old GT and its right side shift. Thanks everyone for all the ideas.

Make VERY sure you don't set that chain too tight, or you could be in for BIG gearbox trouble. I advise at least 20mm or 3/4 inch slack at mid run with the suspension at mid compression. I sit on the back of the saddle, wheels on the ground, tip-toes on the ground and feel the slack with my finger under the swing arm. I like to feel a lot of slack. That's much safer than too tight. It'll give you smooth, safe running.

I learned to ride on right-foot change bikes, but I've come to believe that for right-footed folk, the right foot is better employed for more sensitive braking. (Although it seems some poor souls never use the rear break, thereby loosing much of the handling and braking ability of their bikes)

Worst case scenerio would be that you may have to install an electric or air shifter to do the shifting for you. I'm familiar with the Pingel electric shifters and have installed four of them, so far. My wife has to use them because her left foot is paralyzed....

I see no reason why an individual with a disability shouldn't be allowed the pleasure of riding down the side of a mountain switchback with the scent of pine in the air on a Ducati.  I'm not there yet,it took me 2 years of therapy to get to the point where I can walk without tripping. I have noticed since acquiring the Paso I am now beginning to be able to lift my toes,Wonder if I can claim the bike as therapy to my insurance carrier :smoke: . Any way The reverse shift setup is working fine. Upshifts are clean and I have lots of time to get the downshift done before stopping. I had considered fabricating an electric shifter as a last resort, have everything I need sitting out in the shed most likely. After checking the chain tension loaded I decided to let it go for a while.
Another question, has any one tried the new led 194 bulbs in their cluster, thought I might give them a shot instead of switching to the higher output 168. When I worked for BMW we had swapped a few 194 for 168 and had some heat issues in the E30 clusters.
