hi, im tim from the netherlands and a proud paso owner for about 4 years now.

recently my chain broke and got stuck between the rear fork and the wheel.
this resulted in a dead rear tyre and a broken excenter.
so i bought a set of wheels in 17" and im busy converting the bike.

Have you already fixed it (except for the rims)?
Welcome on the forum.

don`t intend to say anything stupid but did the chain look like that also before it broke ? That chain is really rusty.
You`re lucky the chain didn`t break the engine case and of course that you managed to stop somehow.

if you look closely at the chain you can see that there is not much rust,
the chain is about 1500 km old, and it broke in december, when there's a lot of salt on the road.

its a tsubaki chain and now they claim that something came in between the chain and the rear chainwheel so its a little legal fight

i've put it on the bike myself but it wasnt broken on the point where i put it together, so its a construction fault (or it was incapable of handling al those paso horssepower) :D

Did the gearbox suffered for this?
The chain looks "pinched" between the pinion and the aluminium!

no, luck on my side (and a little angel on my shoulder)
the outgoing axle isnt damaged and all the gears feel all right to, probably it stalled the engine before it could do more damage, the carter is damaged but it is all shallow grooves.

still it was time for the big checkup so i do the belts etc. anyway, i was the most afraid that the engine was seriously damaged (than i had to do the engine changeover that i wanted a long time, multistrada engine 1100 in a paso :) )

If I had to make a call on this one I would think that maybe something did get between the rear chainwheel and the chain , or that the chain derailed for some reason ... maybe to loose ? BUT in any case I dont think a chain as rusty and dry as that one would run properly. shame on you .
Good to have you on board , but one thing puzzles me ..... I dont see any water in your pix, have you found somewhere above sea level ? :P :P  My best friends ( I have some friends beleive it or not ! ) come from Holland ( westerlings ) and they tell me that everyone goes to germany when the tide comes in :P :P  Ellie has chocolate and hundreds & thousands on her toast , Herrie has some drink with gold flakes in it . Good people >

Hi there

Just regarding that chain lock up my 907 had a similiar problem in it's past before I was it's owner, the gearbox ran fine apparentley for about 600 miles before the gearbox started knocking in 3rd gear. This information came from the person I purchased it from and he brought it from the owner whose son had the the lock up - a tangled web of confusion I know.

I would check the gauze filters in your engine sump when you drop out your oil - maybe use a magnet also in your oil in the collection bucket and double check for any loose metal work.

Fingers crossed your gearbox hung on to it's teeth and shafts.

I am splitting my engine next week all being well. :truck:

well, i keep my fingers crossed, hope the motorcycle gods are with me, but so far the gearbox seems undamaged.

but its really a pain in the ass to get the old exenter off the axle (busy with the rear)
probably gonna drill some holes and split it in two, gonna upload some foto's.
the rear fork lookes like its taken care of with a chainsaw, also one of the clamps that holds the exenter is f****d up.

long live the internet, the place i can leave the story's that my shrink doesnt understand (and wife to)
