Well I was just going to do a tidy up and have an engine swap with a repaint included but thanks to our present financial climate I have found myself with no work and little cash so it's all down to my small budget, your help folks and a little ingenuity on my part to get this beast back on the road for the Big trip to Corfu Greece June/July2009.

This is what she looks like today

and looked like yesterday

:smoke:

I have a FEW interesting things to show you so please keep a look out for and pop into this thread I hope to upload the pictures as I go along and hopefully there will be a picture index of the problem solving.

Of course I might get lucky and find a new job which may delay things slightly :dunno:

A few burnt wires here and there and an intersting method of vibration control

I have a small problem with an engine mounting

and the front leg has a a bit of work required on it

( This I am taking to Maxton Engineeringhttp://www.maxton.netspinners.co.uk/ to sort out hopefully but it will sadly need £££££££ :,( :banghead: )

Such part shouldnt make from aluminium at all, as its one of engine holders to frame. I would weld it back again .....

Hi Steve,

sorry to hear you're in such a difficult position.

about the engine bracket.
as Timmetje already stated there isn't much metal. but you can try TIG welding.
an other way could be to take a strip of sheetmetal of 3 or 4 mm. grind this in the same shape as the broken bracket. put the strip on top of the bracket and weld everything together.
the result surely is stronger as the original one.

wiring
you need to repair and improve some connections. But I guess you're keen enough to know how this should be done.

Ducbertus

PS I have a ST2 engine waiting for transplantation and picked up the complete set of fairingparts, tank, mirrors, sidepanels etc. newly sprayed and new decals incl a clear topcoat.
and of course a set of beautifull M1R decals.
so next week I start

Well the frame is now just a shell ready for sandblasting which I hope to do over the weekend, I have managed to find several other cracks on brackets???

I know from the damaged bodywork and previous owners knowledge/history of the bike that it has had a few slow road slides so I wanted to check the frame for any strange twists or other damage thank fully there is nothing and to be honest the bike rode straight and true in the brief time I had her on the road before this stripdown.

I have found somewhere for the engine brackets however the one welded on the frame has a stress crack which was probably due to the front bracket being damaged so this will require a supporting weld

Can anyone confirm for me that this is the correct shape of the front fairing/headlight frame this is shown from underneath and is on the right side as you sit on the bike, if it was straight the frame itself would be crooked so I assume this is correct? Just confirming folks

This has been another real headscratcher for me is the bolt threaded in here or loose? As if it is, then I will have to drill it out as it siezed solid the two bracket bolts were the same only I eventually persuaded them with brut force and heat to pop out - BUT NOT WITH THIS ONE

The starter motor bolt is badly corroded and I will have to grind this off and renew I will also sort out the earth adaption shown elswhere on this site while I am about it aswell.

I found one other bracket a bit twisted and cracked also, this looks like its made of an alloy metal?

There is more to come and lots of fun - wait till you see the state of my body panels that I am starting repair???

Jesus, you sure have got some work on there. Don't worry about the steel welding, its really easy. I regularly make brackets and entire assemblies from plate steel with a MIG welder and I'm no expert.

Stiv, DONT TELL MORE ABOUT Your problems!!!   I think, that You are suffering very much there, as i am taking    .... Anyway those STEEL parts U can weld very easily and its not so bad idea to build all "ready for end assembly" and THEN weld parts together slightly, then look closer, that all is ok and if look so, then weld parts totally together...
U have to weld well all those frame/engine brackets....

Btw, i like VERY much to see Your very dirty and black fingers !!!!!   AT LEAST NOW i know, that i am not only person, who have such !!!!
