Run a compression test on it to see if the valve does have damage. I checked mine when I was having a problem, About 118 psig per cylinder. Good enough for me right now.

if the motor misfires while the starter is engaged, it overloads the sprag. I can't think of another way to put it. Starter turnining engine clockwise, misfire pushes motor counter clockwise, overloads sprag assy. :dunno:

Got it all apart in 30 min. Yeah the spring is shot! The previous owner said he had it replaced by Southern California Triumph.( I have the recipts)
I noticed some shabby work, to say it lightly. the spring had several streches & wasn't even atached.. or able to be attached.. the wrong end was cliped! A-HOLZ !
also their HOBO replaced several of the retainer screws... must have dropped/lost them, they are all boogerd up... Where the 5mm allen goes in is all spun out, I don't know If I could remove them with out a tap & dye...

They have a "holyer that thou" attitude, & skoffed @ me when I called to bring it in.
The Jack-abacuses said they don't work on the paso, like it was a hodaka or something.
They are freaking Ducati mechanics for hells sake. They agreed to do the valve adj, after I gave them a PO for the work they had done 2 yrs ago... $600 for the adj.
BS I said, what if I bring it stripped down.... Oh NO we don't work on stripped down bikes.
I told them to pull their head out & wipe the stinky ring off their neck.

Sori, went on a tangent...

what was the oil seal? I'm headed to the auto parts store...

THANK ALL OF YOU GUYS !!! Wish we were all a bit closer, so I could drop off a few bottles of honey mead to ya!!!!!

Is there any type of Paso show or meet up? I know the Moto GP in Monterey Calif....

regards!

I can't find the seal number, but it was a 50mm Chicago Rawhide. Make sure you put sprag back in for correct rotation. Arrow facing you, ccw rotation

I didn't use any special tool to pull of the retaining nut.
I rotated the flywheel & used a screwdriver. the handle I put in the sub frame & rolled the flywheel until the edge of the screwdriver wedged in one of the flanges on the flywheel. I'll post a photo or link to my facebook page.
I'm using a drop of locktight on the threads before tork'n it down.
whats the tork? think I saw somewhere here ... it's 140 fp????
it didn't seem to be that tight when I pulled it off, seemed more like 80fp... but an 18 inch breaker bar may have created an illusion...

I marked it before removing it... I didn't notice any arrow. It should spin freely backwards, right...?

No problem,
I took it to the parts store & found one that is perfect. it's just a bit thicker
than the one that was broken. It fits good tho! $8.. I order'd 2 extras for my parts stash.

thinking that the c/r & vic numbers are the 2 parts that make the complete seal.?

going to sand down the valve shim on wet sand paper, I bought 600 grit for the major removal & 1000 for a final polish.... might even use the buffer & some "Mothers" rubbing compound

She should be waking up the neighborhood around 11pm
Looking foreward to riding her up the mountain!
I WILL drink an $8 beer @ hells kitchen, if I make it there....
They have GREAT sweet potato fries. Mmmm!
Going to park right up front where the harley doods park :fart:

she fired and ran great in the center stand. when I put a load on her she ran like crud.
A new vibration as well.

I opened up the valves again, just to make sure.... YEP the valve guide is blown out.
thinkin it's partly from the valve being adjusted to tight & being old.
I don't know why Ducati used bronze valve guides...

Back to square one.... :dunno: :,(

Luckily my old boss has one he's selling for 1grand...
I'm going to try & talk him down to $600 & sell off what I don't need to cover the cost...
Anyone need anything for you bike???
