Hello,
I'm in the process of putting a pair of mikunis from a 900SS on my 906. I want to run K&N filters but can't find what part number I should use, I've searched the relevant mikuni posts but the only reference for those that have already done this is K&Ns are a good filter to use - not the part number.
I've also searched K&Ns site, they only list 1 type of single pod filter with a 60mm dia flange but they seem quite long and are listed only for a polaris.

Does anyone know the actual part number I should be using? or
Can I use a filter with a 62mm dia flange and that should tighten up onto the carb OK? There are more size options with a 62mm flange.

Thanks, Rob.

Have you seen this page, there´s some mention of K&N filters including part #.
Still trying to get the tuning right with mine.

that is a SS. The frame and the tank are completely different. Those filters will never ever fit on a Paso. Only chance are some conical or foam filters.

Measure free space under tank and go to good motorbike spare part shops and they have manykind pod filters to sell to You. I like K&N quality but at the end i choose something from such shop when i did Mikuni conversion to my 750Paso... Mine fits perfect, but cant remember brand, sorry...

Rob,

Try using the Unifilter pods from Australia. Have these on my Mikunis and they work a treat, there is ample space as the airbox would have been removed. Here is their web site:

http://www.uniflow.com.au/contents/en-us/d297.html

Cheers,

Fraser.

thanks guys, got a couple of questions then....

Fraser, did the uniflow filters fit? Checking the link they only seem to go up to 57mm dia flange - I have a 60mm neck.

Tony, the filters in that conversion have a 20degree angle and, while they should be OK size wise that angle means I doubt they would fit. Lots of other interesting stuff there tho.

More research and measuring I think before I decide. Was hoping someone had already done it and would save me the trouble.

Wellington must be the place pasos go to congregate - maybe we should get together sometime as I've just moved up from christchurch and aren't sure where the good day rides are.

Rob,

There may well be a slight difference in flange/neck size; that would explain why they were so tight to get on. They have a "rubber" connection, so there is some flexibility to get the pods on to the carb. The pods fit very well, as they are slightly angled so you can rotate them to get the best position.
Seem to remember that someone else commented that the pod filters were not the exact size, but Uniflow would supply the correct size to suit (60mm).
Drop me an email (fraser@hotchilly.co.nz) and I can offer some suggestions on possible routes/rides etc.
Cheers,
Fraser.

The Polaris Outlaw 500 snowmobile filter was actually the one I was thinking of going for also.
The only issue being the outer diameter as two mounted side by side would touch. The height should be fine as to what I remember. With outer diameter and height known it would be easy to cut out a paper model and see if it really fits. My bike is w/o fairing so I could do this if needed.

Can´t remember the brand of filter, but they fit nicely under the tank

A get together sounds good

Tony, Rob,

Those pods look identical to the Unifilter ones that I have. They were "Unifilter PK79" (although they are 57mm they fit the Mikunis).
Cheers,

Fraser.

I have some cheapie K&N copies that work well and may be useful for size but I can't get to them for maybe a week. Pipercross used to do some nice domed individual filters that a lot of the hill climb racers use in their bike engined "weapons" they have alwasy been on the "wish list" when I get round to putting my 750 back together (and yes I have been planning that for nearly 10 years) :banghead:

Hello all,

I've finally managed to get back into the garage and carry on with this but can't get the damn thing to run with these new carbs on it :banghead: - did those of you who have done this have any issues when you put the mikunis on yours that I should be aware of?

Some of my problems if you have suggestions would be appreciated

It runs (sort of) roughly with easy start and/or petrol tipped down the throats but won't fire on the carbs alone.
Backfires out both the front carb and exhausts - occasionally out the rear carb
I've cleaned the carbs and replaced the rubber seals etc
Plugs are sparking good - but will replace them this weekend to be sure
Running 144 Main, 37.5 Idle (I've left my notes at home so from memory think these are right)
Ran OK on the Weber previously, but wouldn't idle or start very easily so it shouldn't be timing issues or anything like that

Thanks, Rob.
