When I lifted under rear wheel w shock in place, I felt like a 2-3mm freeplay.

When I took shock off, it is a 0.20 mm in one part of lower linkage
& at most, 0.35 in the top mount f shock. Ridicoulusly weak mount, btw.
What tolerances are acceptable, close to nil as possible?

Hi Tambu. fan.

I've about the same play and will solve this during the winter time.
0.35 play is to much in my opinion. 0.1 mm or something like that would be acceptable.

and yes, the upper mount looks weak, but there no load sideways.

I haven't messed with the 907 linkage (yet) but I've rebuilt a few dirt bike suspensions. In fact I just finished replacing every needle bearing and seal as well as the shock bearings on my Montesa 315R. With everything that pivots brand new and torqued to spec there is still ~.5 to 1 mm play at the rear swingarm.

The 907 linkage isn't that different in construction. I'd treat 1mm at the axle as Ok, more than a couple as cause at least to check everything.

OK:

Freeplay between rubber bushing rear of the longest/lowest arm in linkage is like 1.8-2.0mm.
Should also be as little as possible I suppose?

Swingarm linkage bearings are 4 x HK2020 Needle bearing,
1 x HK 2030 Needle bearing and 6 x G20x26x4 Seal

Apply heat to the swingarm and rocker casting when removing and fitting new bearings. Just hand 'very hot' is good enough and use a quality extra-long pin punch. They will float out and in with a moderate heat but are the very devil if the aluminium is cold - due to the heat expansion difference between Steel and Aluminium.

mine is the same , with all the pivot points in good condition I figured there was little I could easily do , and under use it would only become evident if I got airborne and last time that happened I had other things on my mind

Well , I figured that with the weight on the wheel all the slack ( most of mine is in the top shock mount ) is taken up , so its not going to be klunking away while your riding  , unless the rear wheel gets airborne and the last time that happened the front wheel had just hit a car at 80mph and me and the rest of the bike were beginning rapid deceleration and I was thinking that I wanted to be some place else ( nearly made it to!! :( ) wishing I wasnt going so fast and worrying about what I was going to land on , didnt give that shock a thought. ;)
Sorry, didnt mean to be obtuce

Seals checked, don`t think they eliminate freeplay as inner bushing
is so much longer than bearing + seal.

So,
there should actually be 1-2mm freeplay? :?

If you mean that the bush is (ah this is where a pic is worth a thousand words )able to slide from side to side ( in relation to the bike ) 1-2 mm (axial movement ) I think this is OK . My paso has some shim washers , the inner hole of which fits over the bush , outer dia 25mm ish . these would take up a bit of play but I think there main purpose is to provide some mechanical protection for the seal. there is no side loading on these components so I cant see what harm it could do , but its the old storey , if you are going to sleep better with out that play , stick a couple of washers in there
