Hi, my shock absorber on my 750 sport has recently started leaking oil and has bottemed out -so will this shock need a rebuild or does anyone know where to get a replacement? Also have another option of fitting a shock absorber from 900ss 89 for about ($150).is there any ajustments i need to do when fitting.

The shock from the 89 900SS will work fine, as will any shock from the SS range up to 98 (and possibly beyond). They all had the same suspension configuration. The 91-98 750 shock is about 1/4" shorter than the 900ss shocks. The stock Sport shock is the same length as the 91-98 900ss shock I believe. Definitely go for the longer one. You can pick up a used shock on e-bay for about $50 - $100. Many of the aftermarket shocks can adjust the ride height, so its usually worth the money if you still ride the bike rather briskly. I put on an aftermarket shock with remote reservoir, and raised the ride height and it works lovely. I also slid the forks up in the triple clamps about 10mm to further quicken the steering. Still rock solid at speed, but much better at turn in.

will i have to take the rear wheel off to remove the shock and does the front wheel have to be off the ground when adjusting the height of the forks.

To change the shock, take off the seat and rear cowl, the tank, and certainly the rear wheel. Its pretty straight forward after that. You don't need to lift the front wheel off the ground to adjust the forks, but it makes it a bit easier.

just spotted this post - i don't get on here as much as i would like, but my 89 sport has been fitted with a Hagon rear shock and seems to be fine.

While you have the rear wheel off, and the shock off, its a good time to check if there is any freeplay in your swingarm. This may be a good time to add some grease to your swingarm pivot bearings, since the bike is 20 years old now, and most likely, nobody has ever done that. Once you get the shock back on, check again for any freeplay or clunking in the action up and down. Also, its a good time to clean your swingarm and look for cracks. Use loctite on all bolts and don't over torque the pinch bolts on the swingarm pivot. Too much force will crack your swingarm.

I have dropped my shock off to get fixed,apparently the seals have gone so this is nothing major.I used the cheats way of removing the shock by using a centre stand to raise back wheel, then removed seat and undid bolts on the tank.I placed a block of wood under the tank to allow enough room for a extender bar with socket to reach the shock.As i undid the bolts and supported the weight of the back wheel to stop the bolts from twisting. Taking the wheel off to grease swingarm and look for cracks is good idea,is there any weakspots in swingarm i should be looking for?

I have seen cracks near the welds for the stays the go to the shock. Also at the pinch bolts for the pivot pin.
