Mctool,
I'm in the middle of doing a 17inch conversion using parts from a 600SS. In the end I abandoned the idea of using the USD forks and SS clamps as:
1) I was told be a couple of suspension guys that lengthening the USD forks was an issue - especially as you need an extra 25mm or so above the top yoke to mount the clip-ons as they won't fit below - they hit the tank and fairing. Lowering the forks to much to get this extra radically changed the geometry (big change in trail) and I was not prepared to go that way. Others have used new screw in fork tops with extra extension to solve this problem and that might work ok but I didn't want too much bending on a screwed joint - that's probably me being conservative though.
2) When I looked at the clearance between the 41.7mm tubes and the tank/fairing at full lock there's no room for a 50mm outer tube as per the USD forks. I didn't want to lose steering lock so I abandoned the USD fork idea. Doesn't mean it can't be done - just too many compromises for me. Will spend money on upgrading the MIR internals if my riding ever improves that much that I need it

Other thoughts - I've stuck with the OEM speedo drive and gauge because I'm going to try a lower profile 120/60 R17 front and the resulting error is not that much (still to be GPS checked)....but I've got radiator clearance issues as well to consider for my 906 and the 750 doesn't have this. The lower tyre height does look like it will help keep pretty close to the OEM trail though (97mm vs 96mm). Still not yet convinced 120/60 will be the right tyre though - 120/70 rides so much better on my 600ss.
I have a bunch of CAD drawings in various stages for drafting and fitment checking if you want some input (inc. speedo drive adaptor and front wheel spacers for the 600ss wheel) - PM me.
Cheers,
Mick
