Went to see Roy at Italsport last saturday getting an oil and filter change on the hyper and was pleasantly surprised when i was told the o rings had arrived two days earlier and were now fitted :D . He wanted to have it done for me to take on saturday but he got side tracked with other jobs so i'll be picking it up this saturday (when i take him the 999s for belt service)

I saw the alloy crank plug with my own eyes and its scary to see how little was left before it fell out and seized the engine  .

Fingers crossed for a dry saturday and i'll finally get some time out on it.

I picked up the 907 last weekend.............................. With a bill for £782

They did do an oil and filter change and throw some belts at it as well, Also re greasing and tightening all the rear suspension linkages has now taken out all the free play it had in it.

As you can see the plug was pretty well machined by the crank going past it taking a shaving off it with every stroke. The allen key socket (usually 4-5mm deep) is no longer there leaving it around 3mm thick. You may think that with 3mm left it was still quite a way from falling out completely but the best is still to come..............................

...........................................................................................................

...........................................................................................................

...........................................................................................................

.............................. I looked on the back of the plug and its recessed (about 3mm)

So i began to think how lucky i was that there was really not a lot left before it "holed" completely losing all oil pressure and seizing the engine :-(

I took the plug to my dads to show him and as i did i noticed a tiny chip of metal in the middle of it, with a single scrape of my finger nail i couldnt believe my good fortune

It was "holed" and could have began losing oil pressure at any time, I believe that if the ride to get it repaired was even a mile further i may not have made it and would have been looking at a complete engine rebuild

Its MOT'd and taxed now so i can get out on it (weather permitting) and with every mile i ride it i'll remember how lucky i was with this one.

Bump.

Mine's at Desmoto Sport in SF today getting exhaust valve guides at 18K miles and yep, the crank oil plug is working its way out, so that too.

Actually, there's a thought . The Guzzi crank and rods et all are away getting ballanced as Im using different pistons , ( and a new big end as some wanker didnt clean out the "hollow " crank big end ) any how , if one is going to get the rotating assy ballanced , how do you allow for the weight of the oil that ( partially ? ) fills this hollow big end when the motor is running , but is not there when the assy is ballanced ? :D
