Some food for thought considering the tire selection available. Has any one considered this before? There is a place in California called Kosman Specialties. http://www.kosman.net. Click on the Wheel weld up form. They can increase diameter and width. You would end up with a 17" X 5.5" that would take current rubber. A 180 on a 5.5" rim is approx 6.75" in width (taken at widest point.) I measured my 160 and it measures 6.5". I think it will be close but it should fit. Same can be done with front but there are some decent tires available for it. It would look stock (or close) but a bolt on option without costly wheel conversions. What do you think?

I guess noone did as it`s not cheap and with a few existing tire alternatives there`s less pressure doing 17" conversions.

Hi,

I recall considering this, but was worried about a minimum width increase with the new flanges?

i.e. as I read it, the increase in diameter came with a complusory minimum width increase?

No issue for the rear wheel, as you state, or at least manageable.

But for the front wheel is it possible to go from a rim width for a 130/60 tyre to a wider tyre? Also you can't go down to a 120/70 width (my ideal 17in tyre option)?

My thinking was if there is always a width increase for the weld up option, then 120/70 is not possible and maybe the front tyre size wouldn't be ideal (wider than 130/60)?

So then you would have to have a new 17in wheel at the front and a weldup of the original OSCAM wheel at the rear.

My Paso is no show machine, but different style wheels front and back is too much for me :)

Or use a wide front tyre? But I know the 120/70 and 120/60 tyres characteristics from my Supersport and wanted to go with one of these tyres.

So I went with a 17in wheel conversion on my 906, using parts I had lying around (spare Supersport wheels).

In the end, it wasn't that much cheaper than the weldup costs, as I was on a short timeline and had to pay someone else to do some of the machining to save time........

Probably I have got this wrong about the minimum width for the weldup(?), so might be worth checking with the manufacturer on this specific issue.

Cheers,

Mick

I think one of the deciding points for the for the weld ups would be if you have a really nice set of brakes on your bike already. The weldups will give you your 17" wheels at a minimum amount of work.

If you want to upgrade your brakes and do 17" wheels, then you might be better off doing the SS/Monster wheels, and all the stuff and work that goes with it. Putting on newer 310 or 320 rotors certainly is tempting, especially with 4 pot calipers.

Weldups are certainly the fastest, easiest way. All it takes is money.

Same as ever. Fast, Cheap, Good . Pick two.

Cheers,

sticking to sixteen inches gets my vote now there are tyres out there that will do the job and fit the wheels. :)
