Thanks for the clarification CB, seems we have a different reference point we measure from. For you it`s the center of the sprocket, I would measure from the contact surface/the inner side of the retainer clip (same as measuring the offset of a brake disc). Hence what for you is 5mm offset for me would be 10mm, therefore the misunderstanding.

Maybe a stupid question:

I have read that the 907ie central stand is higher than 906 and I can switch from one to the other to follow the grow up of the NEW bigger tyres.

I can swap also the side stand without modifications?

"just ordered" when it arrives i will try it.

p.s. I'm going to test metzeler m3 and shinko 747

Well, over 6 months has gone by since the 906's Warrant of Fitness and it was overdue for another. I rode it out to the tester this morning and it of course passed without problem. It has been the worst winter here for motorcycling - whenever it stopped raining it was a work day and the rain returned for almost every weekend. It came as no surprise when the tester told me it had covered only 300kms since he last saw it as I can only remember using it 3 or 4 times.

It ran beautifully and handling on the twisty rural roads was fine but maybe it is time my Paso found a new owner who might ride it more often :(

Has anyone gone down the 180/60 route since I posted my findings?

Cheers, CB

I'd be happy to lend my 907 for a Tuscan trip/meeting etc.
I only hope we don't drink Chianti before riding Pasos
Ciao

not "before", just during!!!
that's what we're going to do:
1) rendez-vous in Pisa under the bell-tower
2) photo-souvenir with Apuane mountains as a landscape (White marble caves included)
3) Ride throught Florence's monuments and museum (Michelangelo's David, the Old Bridge and so on) red line rev requested
4) lunch in Chiantishire with T-bone steak with local receipt. Chianti wine flowing like a river
5)tour in siena's Piazza del Campo running after The Palio's horses (I mean the historical race)
6) happy ending caged in Italian prison!

Welp, having replace the starter motor successfully, I embarked on a cleaning and maintenance mission prior to riding again.

I found that with the bike on the center stand, and idling in first gear, the chain would sometimes touch the outer rim of the tyre.

My solution is nothing if not simple. With the engine off, and in neutral, I attacked the tyre with my belt sander fitted with a heavy grade belt. It made short work of the rim of the tyre, taking about 5 mm off the outer peak. Here it is:

I'd ridden about 50 klicks since, and the chain does not appear to have touched the tyre at all. Once again - the bike is totally unmodified in any way. Talking to the tyre supplier, he reckoned there was an awful lot of "meat" on the outside of the tyre, and that I could grind even more of it off if it was still touching.

Nice job!
My guess is most 180/60-16 tires can be modified in the same way with the same positive results.
