Hey Guys, It's me again.
This time I have found that the clutch is not dis engaging.
My sense is that it may be the clutch slave. I did read teh tech part on this issue but I am confused if they are talking about a 906 or a 750?
My question is this? Does anyone have a source here in the US for the X ring that is the right size?

Jeff

Jeff, why would you need a new clutch slave piston and/or seal ? You`ll only need this if fluid is leaking out of it. Otherwise you probably have air in the line (which is quite tricky to remove).
Remove the clutch cover and check if it`s dry or wet inside.

Ok, I pulled the clutch cover and the bearing fell apart!
So I guess we now know what the problem is!.....
Is there anything else besides the bearing that needs to be replaced?
And that is a SKF bearing?

ok, you didn`t mention that.
The bearing is a SKF 608-ZZ but you will probably find it from other manufacturers also (8mm inner, 22mm outer diameter, 7mm width)
You can also try where they sell inline skates or skateboards.
Do check the piston and the cylinder in the cover for any score. Sometimes if the bearing fails the piston starts to spin which can cause damage.
The clutch button is still ok ?

Funny you should ask about the clutch button!
There isnt one!
When I got it is was none running.
I was told it had a "clutch problem" the bearing is exploded so my guess is the bearing went bad, they opened up and looked at it and the clutch button never made it back in!
I have ordered a new one it should be here in about 3-4 weeks.
Unless someone has a local source in California it has to come from overseas.

Another question, any idea on a good way to get the outer bearing race out of the piston?

if the bearing fell apart chances were good the button was worn or broke apart. W/o the button the complete piston assy will spin if the clutch is disengaged.

You can have one made btw. The measurements are in the FAQ.

I`m afraid there is no good way to get the outer race out the piston. I tried to drill mine out which ruined the piston.
If you have to get a new one (it comes with the seal btw) get 19590023B (or 19510021A, 19520021A, 19520021B, 19520022A, 19520022B, 19520023B) as it`s the cheapet option for ca $45.

I just ordered a complete cover from Ed at GuzziTech.
He assures me it is in good condition, Not cheap at $200 but what are you going to do?
I am going to talk to a friend of mine that is a machinist and look into the possibiltiy of sleving the covers and making a new piston.
The way I see it this is a known problem and with the lack of availabity of covers as more are damaged rebuilding may be the only option. My guess is no one has done this because there are still some out there. But as of today there is one less!
And I am sure when someone buys a motor the first thing that comes off of it is that cover....so I would guess there are a lot motors that are missing covers
Just my thoughts.

Here is the solution I came to with the "whole" clutch bearing, etc.

The pistion and bore had a lot of scoring and I did not want any leakage, I am sure that once the bearing went it caused the piston to start turning in the bore and steel on aluminum is never a good thing.

those covers (F1 version, vented, racing type, brand new) are sometimes available on Ebay from a german vendor, but are quite expensive , around 280US$!!.

the old one CAN be repaired, it will need either welding and machining or a sleeving and of course a new piston.

It has been a while I am thiking of getting a cover from the wetclutch version and see if it could be cut/modified to fit the Paso setup.

the other I idea I had was to retro-fit a standard clutch slave to a custom machined clutch cover... I am sure it can be done, it is just the matter of spending an afternoon on the milling machine & lathe and work out a proper solution to eliminate the old cover / slave.
