Hello everyone! I wanted to post this to run it by others and get some opinions/thoughts. I have had a road trip planned for a weeks now and was going to use a car to go from Binghamton, NY to Boston, MA. After doing work on that car I decided to get rid of it, so I traded it for another one. This vehicle has yet to leave the dealership as they diagnose it with a different problem each day... I know stupid of me to go ahead with this deal and all... I am kicking myself for it severely. So I just put the insurance on the Paso and am finding all my cold weather gear I have.

I am now planning on doing this trip on the Paso. I already serviced it and had it all set to ride a few weeks back when the weather in NY broke, or at least I thought it did. I am looking at this: Friday- 44 degrees, Saturday- 46 Degrees, Sunday- 60.... Up in Boston I am looking at: Friday- 55, Saturday- 52, Sunday- 60. I have rode in the cold before and not afraid to man up and do it. I just would like to hear what others have to say about this trip and if it is a smart idea going on the Paso. Thanks for the opinions/thoughts :)

Dustin

I realize this doesn't relate much to a Paso discussion, but I would love to take her out and open her up on a good note. :)

if you have a good modern set of motorcycle jacket and pants that zip together, that will keep you warm, alert and in better control of your machine,
nothing worse than freezing your butt off during a long trip

The weather I am not all too worried about. I have done cold trips before (middle of November) and my only bad decision was not wearing warm gloves. I race snowmobiles during the winter and have a nice warm winter suit. I may borrow my friends heated suit! Providing he isn't using it. Just going to need LOTS of chap stick and buy some of those hand warmers. Plus making the trip on the Paso will make it MUCH cheaper on gas!!

I appreciate the advice!

Thanks,
Dustin

Warm gloves are always an issue on a Duke, of course you could always skip the headlight and wire them in :fart:

Well this trip is for visiting my girlfriend. We have been alternating weekends and I have been waiting for the first good weekend to do the drive. I am ready for it! Minus the whole cold hands part :-P

If you have done the wiring upgrades outlined on here you should be good to go, I also added a toggle switch to shut off the headlight and switch it off for a bit periodically during daylight when I run any heated gear...... or for a minute or so before I shut it off. When it's cold the bit of added juice from it not being on is a great help when 1st starting in the Cold. The output is marginal for much more than a vest and maybe gloves but it will do it OK on a long trip..... stop and go short trips it won't though.

I have done all the wiring upgrades. I am kicking around the idea of running a wire and bringing my snowmobile helmet; having a heated helmet may be a plus too. I can easily pull the wire from my snowmobile and figure a way to run it. I don't know if I want to go to that extreme though. I'd rather have to battle the elements a little. Though now they are calling for 60+ degrees so I may not even be wearing all my cold gear up... but on the way back, that's a different story.
