When selling on Ebay is it better to start the bidding lower than the than the amount you want for the item? I just opened an account on Ebay. Let me know if you know anymore helpful tips when selling on ebay. Thank You !

you auto bid up to the max you want to pay. As each bidder bids the amount may only go up a few dollars or cents at a time.
The listing will show what the next bid will be.

so if the item is listed for $1 the next bid may only be another 50cents. You know it should sell for around $20, so you put in a max bid for $20. The auto bid will keep bidding for you until either no one else bids and you win hopefully for less than your max bid, or you are outbid and then have to decide if you want to put in another bid. You can just do one bid and the listing will say what the next bid price is.

when selling if you will only sell for a min price, then make that your start price.
However some times if you go lower and get the bidding stated then it will go over that as people want the item and won't let it go, a bit of bidding frenzy and ego not to be outbid.

Know what an item is woirth before bidding, also know what the freight and taxes are as some times its better to support a local business for a small amount more.

Check feedback, and pay by paypal as you will get your money back if the goods don't arrive. [happened to me twice now]

I use a bidding agent. I decide what the item is worth to me put in a bid and the agent automatically puts the bid in at the last 60 seconds of the auction. Sometimes I win sometimes I don't. I never get caught up in a bidding war and overpay for an item. Another advantage of using an agent, you only pay enough to beat the next highest bid up to your limit.
It always amazes me how many auctions go for way more than retail and then tax and shipping on top of that. One more really nice feature of using an agent is you can set up bid groups to bid on multiply auctions for the same item. If you don't get one, it automatically moves to the next item till you do win one. Once you win the group is closed. Now that is how you get an item cheap, sometimes pennies on the dollar.
If it comes down to something I just have to have regardless of price, I can always go in before the end and adjust my bid limit. Most agents will email you when you have been outbid in time to raise your limit.
One thing you will need to learn when using ebay type auctions, there will always be another. Sometimes it is best to wait. Learn to utilize the search function and set yourself up to get emails on new items of interest.
Now having said all that, I have been waiting for years to run across another Jota. I missed out on a very nice one a while back went for 7500 plus the shipping to Australia. It was a nice low mileage example but not all original as it had some "special" as in 650 parts. It came from an estate sale and the auctioneer called me and offered it up to me at an equal price to the aussie gentleman that lusted after it,just so he could avoid the shipping arrangements. It was only 15 miles from me so it would not have been an big deal to pick it up and ride it home.Seems our brothers from down under are willing to corner the market when it comes to Italian bikes    . I know of one more Jota locally that is all original and under 5k miles. I don't think the current owner will ever willingly part with it. He is however 15 years my senior so maybe one day I will have another shot. :smoke: Some times you just gotta wait :banghead:

Higgy I think we pay more here as in general the bikes are a lot more expensive herre, a combo of taxes and importer greed as to where they think a brand should sit, and also due to low numbers sold.
Someone once said only 40 907s imported to Oz, so it makes it hard to find one. Do I have 5% of the market?? maybe more if some have been crashed

I understand your appreciation of the Jota, I will join you on that one!!

Now that our dollar is crackin on, the USA is cheap pickings!! but sadly I seem to have run out of things to buy....

What stops us importing more bikes [from anywhere] and cars from the UK is our completley stupid import laws.
I looked a t a 907 from NZ, but there was no compliance center that would do it know for private importers, only the dealers who go to Japan and bring back lots of Dukes and others.

To give you and idea of importer crap with a premium brand, Porsche Panamerra USD $89,000, AUD $229,000. So we have 10% duty, 33% luxury car tax, over $55,000; but not indexed to inflation or anything sensible like that and then 10% GST on the final price, so even on the US RRP its only about AUD$130, so where is the other $100,000??? I belive we have the most expensive price in the world, thats why they callus the lucky country......

Friends now come home to OZ and say how expensive it is compared to overseas

I am aware of the issues you all down under face. It always cost us here a premium price to order parts from Aussie Land :phone:

dunno about that Claude, the taxes are one thing, the massive importer mark ups are another and not to be blamed on the govt, mind you the govt seems to have no problems spending someone elses money.....infrastructure?? plan for the future???? not noted to be an OZ govt plan.
Holden/yeah ok, but I prefer my Porsche!! :choo: :choo: Pity I haven't driven it for a year as I continue to tinker on it....

live somewhere else other than the "nanny state" [for our O/S friends its a comment Mark Weber made and has stuck.] Australia has a rule for EVERYTHING!!!! take responsibility for ones actions - unlikely, respect others, sadly lacking....service, hahah, just go to the states and see what service is compared to
I have suggested to my wife a couple of times it might be good to shift, but kids and work bind us here. Yeah Melb is Ok, but i don't know what they base that survey on. certainly not on cost of living, services-like outer suburb transport for instance, service, traffic, goods availability -thank goodness for the internet!

Anyway we digress and it seems like a good converasation over a glass of red in front of a fire! :drunk:
