Paso 750 Rear Tire solution (160/60/16)

Got this reply today from a "Scott" @ Shinko..."The SE790 Journey should be available late spring to early summer after full testing is conducted."

The SE790 is the replacement for the Shinko 747/757 tires. Hope it will be a narrow enuff tire to remain the "simple solution"...

A possible "definitive" solution for the Sprocket alligment is to use a SECONDARY Gear Shaft from a SS600-750/M600-750 form a modern Engine.

they are nearly identical and can be swapped with very little mods (VERY LITTLE).

I did this in an old 750 engine I fitted on a modern frame (with a 916 rear end) and with the new shaft the sprocket is more esternal, aprox 30mm (over 1")

here is a comparison between the two (original on the left, SS750 on the right, the output shaft is the one with the GROOVE):

I picked up a 180/60/16 Shinko 757 off eBay and just put it on today. I shaved the ridge with a Stanley "Surform". As it turns out, I took not quite enough to completely clear the chain so I'll get to that again later in the week.

Not knowing any reason why not, I turned the eccentric so the axle is at the top. In that position, the ride height feels pretty much the same as stock. Also, when the bike is on the center stand, the rear tire has about the same ground clearance as stock.

As for how it feels to ride...? I just got back from a lazy 15-20 mile ride on some curvys...so far so good. With the stock Michelin front tire, it felt like it wanted to drop into the corners a bit more smoothly than before.(does that make sense?) The 38 tooth sprocket feels fine but as noted above, I still have to shave more off the tire's chain side ridge. (anyone know how much is too much?)

I'm just trying to continue to enjoy riding my favorite bike of all time without destroying that look...I'll get (a little bit) jiggy with it after this tire stuff jells.

I'll add fotos later in the week.

OK, here's a foto (complete with a greasy thumbprint right in the middle) showing my '88 Paso with the Shinko 180/60/16. Still haven't put many miles on it but so far, allz well.

The Shinko Podium 006 works well on the front with that rear for me.............

Iám new to this forum and i own a paso from 1990 and i'am to looking for a new rear tire found a metzler160/80/16 has anyone any experience with this tyre next qeustion is will it fit the paso's rim
The tire is 1.6 cm tahler then the 160/60/16 that space is available on my paso so i think it will fit. :idea:
