All the Italian vehicles need to be inspected after 4 year after the purchase (new vehicles) and, besides, every 2 years.
During the inspection, they check braking, tyres, exhaust etc...

thank God we don't have anything like that in Holland. We do have "APK" for cars but not for motorcycles.

I have some names at Ducati that might help. I'm told that they do not speak or read english and I have no Italian except the most basic words.

Can one of our Italian members write me a passionate but very nice letter explaining this problem and what Ducati can do to easily resolve it?? I will then write a cover letter in English and pass it on to Ducati as coming from all club members direct. I will then follow up with more of the people I know there to see who else we can get involved. I have met Dominicali a few times and Livio Lodi many times.

WDW will be next June and I will probably be in Italy for that so can get with them face to face there and at the factory.

I've send to you mail that I write to Ducati.

They have 2 options in Italy:

1- Release a "Nulla osta" for new tires spec.
2- update the ducati table tires alternative, the current one does not include tires spec of
ducati paso as you can see from the site of the Italian Motorcycle Federation

With first option they have to release a "Nulla osta" on every request (as mine by mail)
With the second option no one have to ask the "Nulla osta" to Ducati but can put tyres directly on bike

This may be a case that being legal is more detrimental to your health.

One way is to have a second set of wheels. They are cheap enough these days. Put on the set with the Michelins for the inspection, then change them back to the good tires until its time to inspect the bike again. If all they look for is the tire model, and that there is tread, and don't look at the date code, then that may satisfy them.

How many officers would, or ever have, looked at the tires you have on the bike if you ever get pulled over?
Mostly they will want to see that the paper work is in order. It would be a rare officer indeed that would know what tire is supposed to fit on a Paso.

Ride with good tires, and swap out to the 'legal' ones the for inspection.

Thankfully, in the US, we don't have inspection of motorcycles, and for cars it is only for pollution control devices mostly. Some states have car safety inspections, but mostly the look to see that all the lights work, you have tread on your tires, and there are brakes that work. Wheel size modifications, and tire sizes are common here in the states. No regulations, although some modified cars and trucks are pretty scary.
