Does Ducati still sell the flywheel and gear portion?

what exactly do you mean by gear portion ?
If you post the part numbers from the parts catalogue that`ll make things easier.

Steve, do you know if the 906 flywheel is the same as on other Ducs ?
(the one of the 750 is the same like the one of any two pick up, Kokusan equipped SS/Monster/Cagiva Elefant 750 or 900 and probably 600, too)

The 906 parts manual from this website shows them as parts #

17310011A (Driven Gear) This is the gear I was (Poorly) referring to earlier.

16010031A (Canned Range)

Id also like to know if I can use one from another Ducati. I have not had this bike running since I took it off a friend hands, so I want to put as little money into it as possible just in case the motor is no good. Don't get me worry I want to do it right but if I can find good used parts that will fit, id go that route.

I'm with you G
difference is most likely in the placement of the signals for the pickups
of course if you have installed the wrong one it could be a very big deal trying to figure it why the thing runs like crap

I am about to do the starter sprag on my 906 and am getting the Tools and Parts together, just one question? do i need to drop the Oil out of the Bike when i remove the Alternator Cover?. I have gotten to the stage here in WA where i am going to have to do all of my own maintainance work because of the unwillingness of some Bike shops to touch the Paso or other Shops just not interested in working on her. So yes as time and $ permits you will see me asking a lot more questions and hopefully even tho some of you guys on here will think its pretty basic stuff to a Paso newbie like myself i always believe there is no such thing as a stupid question, so please bare with me peeps.

Thanks in advance
Harry. :)

you can do it either way, it will drip some so keep a pan under it.
Take the frame section out and make sure you get every cover screw before you pull it off. Should not take a lot of force. Not a bad idea to thread a short bolt into the end of the crank to prevent damage to the threads if your puller does not come with a soft tip. Some do some don't
Also a good idea to clean the crude around the spocket area before you pull the cover.
Pull the crank sensor out of the cover, disconnect the stator wires and the side stand switch if its still there to prevent stretching them

think thats about it...........

As well as what higgy has suggested, you will have to drain the coolant and disconnect the hoses from the pump and remove the gear control lever. If I'm going to do any major work like this on my engine I take the opportunity to change the oil and coolant anyway,it's your bike, your choice. If you haven't already done so, download a copy of the workshop manual from here;http://ducatipaso.org/docs/906/manuals/. Good luck, if you get stuck there are plenty of people here willing to help out a fellow pasoist.
