 I use in my Paso 88 a Metzeler M1 Sportec tire in 130-70/16 size, with a Michelin M59 160-60/16. Now I have to change the rear tire and want to install a Metzeler ME 180-60/16. Metzeler says that this tire need a 5" rim (like a Paso stock). What do you think about this combination?

Are you sur with your diemnsion ? I had not a feed-back on this dimension from Metzerler Germany. Before installing the Avon 150/80 ZR16, I had worked on all solutions with major tire manufacturer, but Metzeler haven't this dimension !

 Hello Christian. Yes I'm sure. Metzeler me 880 180-60R/16M/ctl74h(g) with inlation pressure 2,80 bar. I saw it in http://www.metzelermoto.com This tire is the same size that Honda Goldwing 1800, 16x5" rim. I have find a dunlop 220 in same size, too, and I'm considering to put it with a 208 front. What do you think about that?

hi everybody,
i join the discussion about 180 rear tire.
it's true, both metzeler and dunlop have in catalog the 180/60/16".
Metzeler with the ME880 and Dunlop with D250. Dunlop has also a 170/70/16". All this tyres are rated "H". The only problem is the width of the 180 (there's not a lot a space to fit it).
I don't know if Honda imports the GL1800 in europe, for sure not in Italy (where I live), so the problems goes on....

 Hello everybody. Don't worry, there is space enough to fit this tire (180-60/16), I have seen two Pasos with this tire in internet.

Hi,

if you switch tires AVON may be a choice.

130/70-16 AV45 AZARO front
180/60-16 AM23 rear

There`s a company in Germany offering this conversion.
Chain and sprockets need to be changed to 520.
Side and center stand lengthened and front fender raised.
I know this shop uses Avons. The types above are my suggestion.
These tires are VR rated.

Most other similar rear tires, also 150/80 are tourer tires and probably more appropriate on a Honda Goldwing than a Paso.
See also that 150/80-16 tires are not recommended for a 5" rim.

Hi,

Actually, Michelin M59 and A59 are available, in Switzerland.

But if you want use other tires, a suggest you:
130/70-16 AV45 AZARO front
150/80-16 AV46 AZARO rear

The 180/60-16 AM23 is for a very high weigth (Goldwing), the PASO is not in this category ! Depending of the local homologation paper, the V speed is not enough, and all tire in 180/60-16 is in V speed (Switzerland). I have no experience on road with this big dimension, but I think the bike will be heavy ! If someone as a experience with it, a feedback will be welcome.
in regards with the actual rear tire, I'm not sur that the 180 passed between arm, and the chain will be other problem, 180 or 152 mm.
Other is the look  ! the AM23 is oriented for custom bike!

Of course, the 150/80-16 AV46 is recommended for a 4,25" rims max, but I use it on my bike and I'm totally satisfied.
For front, raising the fender.
For rear, change the front sprocket for a 1 teeth minus. Turn the rear excentric to go with the arm up. (the plate of the motor bike is maintained). No need change the length of side and center stand.

Christian,

How does this tyre combination effect the bike's handling? Slower or faster steering?

Thanks

Fausto
