Hi Guys sure this has been covered a few times before but....... What oil do you use? Not so much the make but what viscosity? Tell you why I ask:
I was at one of our local race meetings and a some guy who claimed to be a "Ducati Mechanic" asked what oil i was using - told him Castrol R4 Superbike 5W-40. Big fowns and shakes of the head "not right you should use at least 20W-60" Really? He then went on further to say it will cause most problems with the operation of the clutch..................that's when i stopped listening.
I have been using this oil for over a year now and have done 7 race meetings and it been all good. Is 5w-40 too thin for our motors?

I`m running 20W-50 as recommended in the user manual. (Used Castol mineral in the past now AGIP synthetic)

G - hence why i stopped listening to the guy........... I had to show him the holes in my clutch cover to prove it's a dry clutch!!!
Higgy why 0W and why not specifically 5W? Just means at winter tempertures 0 is slighty thinner than 5. I was more concerned about the 40 but having done a fair bit of research now a 10W40 semi or fully synthetic is recommneded by most for our engine.

0w is completely different than 5w
0w dies not change viscosity regardless of temp

I've run 20/50 mineral in all my bikes ( except the bevel and that could change soon as well) and have never had a problem.I'll be putting the same in the Sport when it's time.

Bevel: HD50 Oil 907 w ST3 engine: 10W50
The lower number can roughly be seen as the value for the viscosity when cold-starting the engine. The higher number shows abstract the temperature where the critical viscosity is reached. My Bevel is nearly never "cold started" so it gets the HD50...
