Is it possible to weld the left engine cover. My waterpunp is leaking because of corrosion.
A little piece is missing ( maybe 5mm by 5mm) in the left engine cover. I tryed to fix it with liquid
metall with no sucess :(
Many many hours spend last year for nothing.
Also my watercooler is leaking at the intake. What can i do ?
I am almost giving up this projekt !
To much work and money for the minutes of fun. :suicide:
I hope the forum members can help me again

thanks

Someone skilled with a mig could do it. May require remachining in the end.
There are also epoxy/metal combos can fix a lot of issues

Hello Higgy,
I tried these epoxy metall mix (liquid metall) already.
No sucess.
Do you think it is possible with mig. I always thougt that you need to know
the exact aluminium mix from the part you want to weld.
What about soldering ? Also for the radiator.
Any expierience ?

if you are talking about alumalloy products forget them, better to find a talented mig guy
a lot more durable and comparable cost

Germany = Beer...............Yes ? This may help your search?

Then in that case found yourself a local brewery and then found out who repairs their aluminium barrels.

I do not joke as I have found this to be the easiest and cheapest source of locating a good welder proficient in aluminium welding.

I have had two Ducati engines repaired by the same such people before I invested in my own mig welder..................although to be honest I have never matched their qulity of work.

In the UK most suppliers dedicated in replacement vehicle Raditors are also repairers of the same, I am sure that you have the same engineers locally in Germany also there have been several on ebay europe recently that did not sell and they were very reasonably priced.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUCATI-906-PA ... 415f446a90

Also last week in the UK there was a whole new caseing available for an 851 which I believe is the same as the 907ie and this went unsold so may be relisted again as it is a free for insertions in the UK this weekend.

I've had 25+ years welding experience. The engine cases can be easily welded using a TIG welder and 4043 aluminum filler wire. Your best bet would be to find a reputable shop that specializes in repairing aluminum cylinder heads, they should be able to fix the radiator as well.
You should also look into why it has corroded out. If you're having this sort of issue it could be because you're not using the correct coolant, you need one that is suitable for alloy.

Good morning everybody. Very good informations.
The corrosion came because of a 10 year standing time in a garage with no movement.
I had several more problems with that.
Iam now using the red fluid ct12+ which must be O.K. for all kind of alloy engines.
Solving the problem with beer is also a very goog idea. Beer for me and a good welder for the 907.
I will try to find a welder and hope he can also do the radiator too. The alloy is very thin and hard to weld.
A friend of mine is working in the food industrie and maybe he can do a tig welding . I have to ask.
As I remember now there is a porsche restorer in my hometown he should also know how to do this.

Thanks again

Hi Montreal, where are you located? Here in Kiel we have http://www.mmkiel.de/. They are VERY good & they welded my rear swingarm. They are indeed Ducati specialists as well...

I would not use any aluminium solder product on a bike anywhere near any exhaust part or any other critical part.
