Since you went with the 70's Sport faring, why not go with a seat tail section from the same era? Show off that lovely frame in back. (not yours, the Sports)

Have you strolled through Bike Exif, and Pipeburn sites for ideas? Easy way to burn a few hours.

Cheers,
Phil

Thanks for the links, and yes had thought about an SS Bevel seat, actually borrowed a solo off a superlight 900 to try on it as well looked good to.

Also have a replica BMW solo from the 70's which doesn't look to bad either, will get there eventually.

Wheels 1st then start thinking about the rest.

Cheers

Peter

Nice one Gerhard.

This is another site more so for spec's but lots of custom builds as well

http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/

Maybe of interest to other site members

Update time,

The worst of the grunt work is over, not the best looking adapters but they work, everything on the front is just bodgied up at the moment, just to make sure it all hangs together and works, this coming week will be sourcing high tensile bolts and whatnot in the correct length/pitch and so on, and then it's done and can start riding it again, and of course book another trackday.

The rear is finished apart from cleaning everything and bleeding the new caliper.

Gerhard and Phil many thanks for all the info either off this site or by PM.

Without Dave Ward at Moto Italia here in Western Sydney, this just wouldn't have happened.

So how is it looking, be nice the old girl has no clothes on at the moment, and can be embarrassed easily..........................................

Wheels look like they belong to that bike. Looks like fun.
However, I thought you were going for the 4 piston calipers? Did you spend too much on a Valentines present?

How did you solve the speedo / spacer issue and center the front wheel?

Cheers, Phil

Thanks Phil, I certainly like the look of them, and glad didn't go with the black one's the wreckers had.

Moto Italia did all the precision hard work machining up various spacers and sleeves, I got it to a certain point and realised it was all going pear shaped and didn't have the ability or resourse's to do what needed doing, so blew the budget and gave it to them to make them fit.

Dave replaced the drive spline with one off a Mito 125 (has a longer tang) to my drive spline along with a reduction spacer/come sleeve and it all works, he has done it a fair few times before so only needed a couple days on and off inbetween other jobs with the bike.

which = no more money so no 4 Spot calipers, few months down the track will revisit it.

Have just finished putting it all back together, so as soon as I have the right mounting bolts can test ride it, and also get an idea of how far out the speedo is going to be.

Cheers

Peter

YUP, That's how I did it the first time. Worked fine. My spacer was a little less graceful, but I used the same vintage speedo drive. Can't remember if the speedo was off by much. Remember to lube it well when you have the wheel off.

The other way is to use the speedo drive that came with the wheel, and machine the inside of the left fork leg to center the wheel. That's how it is on the 907. A simple machining job, but a bear to set up right. The newer speedo drives are much wider.

If you lived closer, i would gladly give you some 4 piston calipers, but that will give you something to troll the want ads for and pick up a good deal. You can usually find a pair for $100 or so, you just need to be patient.

Cheers, Phil

the ratio of the original drive is 21/12. It`s stamped on the housing. Maybe you can still see what it says on yours.

Well have finally ridden it, albeit only around the block a couple of times, (it is a very steep and bendy road around my block     )

and it now steers in a very similar manner to my '07 CBR 600 RR, (blasphemy I hear site members crying  ), which really was by the time you thought about a corner, you were already through it, and onto the next.

Phil your right about being able to change lines at will, it is a totally different bike to right now. :choo:

The brakes are better but still not right, so will put a seal kit through the 08’s, only thing I haven’t done yet, keeping in mind that this thing was in storage in Japan for I believe 8 to 10 years, so even though their well and truely bled, would imagine some sludge is still in behind the pistons, and it’s not a big job to do.

What’s Higgy’s line about making things worse.

So there it is, some tidy up to do here and there, and it is a track/sometime road bike with a bit of style chucked in to boot.

Cheers
Peter

You know hindsight is a truly wonderfull thing, :banghead:

Should have done this a year ago

Anyway's done now, and can stand it on it's nose, literally :D

At least they are no where near the worst I've ever seen, and that in itself is scary.

Did you change the pads for the stainless rotors, or just reface the ones that you used with the cast iron rotors?

Amazing amount of gunk in an old caliper.

Cheers, Phil

Very light reface, they had only done around 600km so barely bedded in (HH sintered pads).

Stupid thing is on the road it was fine, little bit spongy but stopped fine, had bled and bled, as well as flushed them through with brake fluid, it is a bleeding technique I was taught years ago, so little bit of a lesson in there somewhere, and the issues really only showed up at the track with serious speeds and braking.

It's still nice to be learning stuff, even at my age.

Cheers
