Space is getting tight in the shed at the moment, time to send a couple up to my sister to store. My BSA is at last on the road and new toy arrives when I get home from sea.

I think Challenger392 has lucked on to one of the best bargains on the planet, regardless of damage, I would have crawled over broken glass in shorts to buy that for US350 regardless of damage and any other things that may need fixing.

Though would be taking it in a different direction rebuilding wise, but will be good to see it back to it's original state.

Challenger392 I think a few of us will be following this thread with interest to see how it all comes back together, will be looking forward to updates

Update. $70 dollars later I have ignitiin keys thanks to the local locksmith. I removed the seat, cleaned the mouse nest out of the tool storage, and removed the tank. After disassembling both carbs im happy to report that the previous owner must have drained them prior to shelving the bike. Both float bowls are clean and dry. I hooked up an external battery, replaced a blow fuse and pretty much everything seems to work. Engine cranks, makes oil pressure, etc. The only thing thats giving me trouble is the fuel pump. No matter what I do it wont come on. Should it operate as soon as the key is turned on? Does ot shut off when the kill switch is off? I looked at the wiring diagram and it appears to me as though it should operate with the key on. If anyone has any insite it would be appreciated.

I managed to get the pump out. Its locked up with scum. New one is on the way

Even if the pump HAD worked I don't think I would have had much fuel flow that fuel line was designed to be in bad gas for 17 years.

New fuel pump arrived. P/N HFP-360 on amazon. Appears to be a direct replacement for ducati 750 sport and 900ss. It comes with the pump, rubber isolator, fuel tube, hose clamps, and 2 choices of inlet filter. Im very pleased.

Long awaited update: I was able to clean up the tank quite well with the MEK. There really wasn't any rust under the goo in the tank so that was a relief. I installed the new pump, and after sourcing a new battery, I reinstalled the tank. Somewhere along the way I decided to modify the intake setup. The previous owner just had pod filters directly on the carbs. Problem with that is that at low- mid RPM and low throttle the carbs actually spit some fuel-air mixture out the front of the carb before re-ingesting it. Adding some intake piping ensures all of this mixture is captured.



As the picture shows I added 2 silicone elbows and short pieces of ally tube. The side benefit to this is that it will draw air from up under the tank. This should be cleaner (further away from the front tire, bugs, dust etc.) and cooler air. The one filter is kinda crunched because it was too long to easily fit in the prior arrangement.

Update 2: Both of my handlebar switches were busted. The only thing wrong with the Left side was that for some reason it was taken apart and the blinker toggle was missing (I assume broken in the wreck). The rest of the assembly was actually in pretty nice shape. I ended up buying this ratty looking switch set just to steal the blinker toggle out of it.

And here is the original assembly re-installed with the "new" blinker toggle.

I also sourced a used/ good condition kill switch assembly as mine had the kill switch it self busted off.

Once I got all that sorted, I installed 2 new rear blinkers, filled the tank with some premium and cranked her over. To my surprise it started right up . After warming up it settles nicely into a slow idle at about 800-900 RPM. It seems hard to believe that it just runs like that after sitting for 18 years. I was able to drive it around the yard and down the family farm road, everything seems to function as it should. I still need to tidy up some items, change the oil, change the brake fluid, change the timing belts, and install some front blinkers. Oh and get a new set of tires. Hopefully she will be on the road soon.

For any other 750 sport owners looking to buy a new battery. I bought a MotoBatt MB16AU, It was quite a tight fit, as in pretty much press fit. I don't want to have to take that out any time soon. one benefit is they come with a 2 year factory warranty, which is pretty good.
