Hallo to everybody, it's a long time since my last post...

Since I am going to change my old engine, I wonder if anybody has some advice about buying or making an engine support. I would use it to work on the new engine before mounting it on the frame and to store the old unit after the replacement.

I was thinking about something like this:

Any suggestion is appreciated! Thanks!

Luca

it should not be so hard to made a new one, Just a soldering gun and some iron bar... you just need the exat distance between the lower screws on the engine block or you can made it only for one side of the block, in order to work easly on the gearshaft.

I'm also would be interested to it. I'm buying another 907 for spare parts and the seller (a mechanic) tells the engine would be new. So, to avoid all goes rusty, I would want to take away the weaker parts like the engine, the tank, the ECU...
......................
In italiano anch'io, finalmente.
Ciao

do you realized that there's a very small quantity of italian members?

I think rather that the Italians have very much problems with the foreign languages and therefore with the English.
I known this website very much time ago, also when I hadn't or a bike or the Paso because I always loved this bikes, but I also had problems with the English.
Afterwards, my company started a English course for the employees and... here I am.
*******************
Ciao.
Francesco

I believe that many Italian Paso owners haven't enough confidence both with English and with Internet...

Indeed, about the engine support, here I found another good idea:

I am conviced that I can use a bolt passing into engine holes to support engine from the back, but I am hesitant about front support.
Is it better to use a simple "spike" (so the engine will just lean on it, as shown in the first picture), or to use another passing bolt (similar to the rear support, as shown in the second picture)?

Thanx!

Grazie!

a bolt for the front support will help you in working on the engine while a spike will be easier to install the support on the engine...

Therefore, who start to make this support?
It seems to me the best solution is in the first pic (also its engine don't seems bad...)
************
E allora, chi inizia a fare sto (benedetto) supporto?
Ciao

The problem with the first stand is that you can't work on the motor. You can't even pull the head on the forward cylinder with that stand... The second one posted by Iceriani, seems like a better solution.

Personally, I use a Black and Decker Workmate stand. Cheap, effective, and the wood top doesn't scratch.

If I had a bigger racing budget, I'd make two stands; one that bolts to a car engine stand to work on the motor, and one that holds the motor in precisely the correct position to bolt it up in the frame while on the stands.

Hey, Del
perhaps you have the best solution.
I already have this stand.............
Don't worry for the translation.
Even if we have some problem with the English we will understand you.
Sorry, but what's Pig Latin? It's a bad thing?
Ciao

No, it's a way of talking that we used as kids to talk in front of our parents without them understanding us. Kinda a "kid code".

I've used those stands for all my bike motors, from a YSR through a 900ss. They work pretty well, you've just gotta be sure the motor isn't able to fall off; if it does, it will be ruined.

Honestly, though, there isn't much you need to drop an engine out of the frame for. Even the rear cylinder can be worked on, just pull the front mounts, and use a hydraulic jack to support the motor, and let it pivot forward. I did that when my 900ss needed helicoils in the case after the cylinder studs broke from the higher compression.
